Augusta track teams post strong results at three indoor meets

Augusta University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at three meets on February 13-14, 2026. Senior Avery Jaynes recorded an NCAA Division II qualifying mark in the 5,000 meters at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Madison Thomas set a new Peach Belt Conference indoor record in the women's 5,000 meters at the same event.

Augusta University sent athletes to the Tryon Mid-Winter Invitational in Mill Spring, North Carolina; the Crimson Open at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the men's competition at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Avery Jaynes finished the 5,000 meters in 14:02.98, securing an NCAA Division II qualifying time. Nasrudin Mohamed posted 14:34.26 in the same event. Other performances included Gabriel Best's 8:32.71 in the 3,000 meters, Oscar Curry's 4:14.67 in the mile, and Seth Eye's 1:53.00 in the 800 meters.

At the Crimson Open, Seth Eye ran 1:51.96 in the 800 meters for eighth place. In the mile, Oscar Curry finished 19th in 4:15.72, followed by Avery Jaynes in 20th at 4:15.76, Gabriel Best at 4:22.58, and Nasrudin Mohamed at 4:28.41.

The Tryon Mid-Winter Invitational saw Andrew Helfers place second in the 3,000 meters with 8:37.03. Caleb Darsey, Eli Corn, and Carter Dehnke recorded times of 8:59.59, 9:01.74, and 9:37.45, respectively. In the 5,000 meters, Beck Wolf-Hardy ran 15:49.86 and Sam Segrist 15:59.11. Sprint highlights included Logan Wynn's 22.47 in the 200 meters. Field events featured Jackson Evans' long jump of 6.45 meters and Tra'Vontae Smith's shot put of 12.90 meters.

For the women at the BU invitational, Madison Thomas ran 17:28.85 in the 5,000 meters, breaking the Peach Belt Conference indoor record. Caleigh Munro and Josabeth Graciano posted 5:12.27 and 5:13.31 in the mile.

At the Crimson Open, Josabeth Graciano led the 800 meters with 2:21.03, followed by Caleigh Munro at 2:22.29.

At Tryon, Cheyenne Ryan finished fifth in the 600 meters at 1:45.27. Distance runners included Swaye Mohler ninth in the 3,000 meters at 11:13.27 and Lily McDonald seventh in the 5,000 meters at 19:36.45. Taneiha Bowman led the long jump with 5.31 meters and placed 10th in the triple jump at 10.83 meters. Jala Williams threw 11.08 meters in the shot put.

The teams next compete at the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on February 23 in Gainesville, Florida.
