Björn Hamberg takes over as Elfsborg coach

Björn Hamberg, assistant coach for the Swedish national team, becomes the new head coach for Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg. He replaces Oscar Hiljemark and has signed a contract until 2029. Hamberg will continue his national team duties during the spring playoffs and possibly the World Cup finals.

Björn Hamberg, who has long served as assistant coach for the Swedish national team, takes over as head coach for IF Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan football league. The Borås-based club announces that Hamberg assumes the lead role after years as a close associate of Graham Potter. He has also coached Brighton's U18 team until recently.

Hamberg replaces Oscar Hiljemark, who left Elfsborg for the Serie A club Pisa. The contract with Elfsborg runs until 2029. Despite the new role, Hamberg retains his national team commitments during the spring playoff matches and possibly the World Cup finals.

In a statement on the club's website, Hamberg said: 'I am very influenced by the environments I have been in and the principles in the game that I have worked with over the last 15-20 years. A team that wants the ball, a team that wants to drive the game, try to get the matches on their own terms.' His philosophy emphasizes ball possession and controlling matches on their own terms.
