The Dirección Meteorológica de Chile issued an alarm for intense rainfall affecting Coquimbo, Valparaíso, the Metropolitana Region and O’Higgins from Friday to Sunday. President José Antonio Kast visited preventive works and urged citizens to follow authorities’ instructions.
According to forecasts from the Dirección Meteorológica de Chile, rainfall will begin Thursday night in the Metropolitana Region and intensify from Friday dawn. Between Friday and Sunday, 100 to 150 millimeters are expected in the Metropolitana Region, 130 to 180 in Coquimbo, 120 to 160 in Valparaíso, and 90 to 120 in O’Higgins.
President José Antonio Kast toured the Canal Santa Marta works in Maipú on Wednesday with Mayor Tomás Vodanovic. Kast highlighted authorities’ unity and asked citizens not to use flooded roads or discard waste in waterways.
The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications presented the Plan Nacional de Conectividad en Emergencias with ten measures to protect mobile and fixed networks. Subsecretary Romina Garrido said the focus is to maintain continuity of telecommunications services during the event.
