China's central bank to conduct 500 billion yuan MLF operation

The People's Bank of China announced on Thursday it will carry out a 500-billion-yuan one-year medium-term lending facility operation on Friday to maintain ample liquidity in the banking system.

The operation will be conducted through variable-rate tenders with a fixed quantity, using a multiple-price auction.

With a 400-billion-yuan MLF maturing this month, the move will see a net injection of 100 billion yuan, according to the central bank.

The measure aims to maintain ample liquidity in the country's banking system.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced plans to issue yuan-denominated global debt securities, known as panda bonds, in June 2026. The move aims to diversify sources of state budget financing and reduce reliance on a single country.

Banking system liquidity has dropped to its lowest level this fiscal year, pushing up money market rates. Advanced tax outflows triggered the decline. The Reserve Bank of India is offering temporary support through variable rate repo operations.
