Daniel ‘N’, a Didi app driver, was transferred to Almoloya de Juárez prison accused of the feminicide of Ana Karen Nute Téllez, a 19-year-old woman. The student's body was found on March 1 in Metepec, Mexico State, after she requested a motorcycle ride on February 28. Didi confirmed the man handled the service but used an unregistered motorcycle.
On February 28, Ana Karen Nute Téllez, a pedagogy student at Univer Milenium school in Toluca, requested a motorcycle transport service through the Didi app to return from San Antonio La Isla to her home in Metepec. Surveillance cameras captured around 11:15 p.m. a blue motorcycle without plates picking up the 19-year-old woman. This was the last time her family had contact with her, prompting her mother to report her disappearance to the Public Ministry.
Ana Karen's body was located on March 1 in a lot in the San Miguel Totocuitlapilco neighborhood in Metepec. According to Daniel ‘N’s statement to the Public Ministry, the driver was under the effects of alcohol when handling the service. He tried to rob her of her belongings, but she attempted to escape. He caught her, subdued her from behind, and took her to a tree along the Tenango del Valle-Toluca highway, where he asphyxiated her.
The forensic doctor determined the cause of death was cerebral edema secondary to mechanical asphyxia by arm strangulation. The Mexico State Attorney General's Office confirmed through Didi's LERT system that Daniel ‘N’ was registered on the platform and handled the trip, although the motorcycle was not listed in the system.
Daniel ‘N’ was arrested at his home in Calimaya and transferred from the Attorney's Office in Toluca to Almoloya de Juárez prison. At the time of his capture, he offered money to the ministerial police to be released, so he also faces investigation for bribery. In the coming hours, a judge in Almoloya de Juárez will hold the imputation hearing. If found guilty, he could face 40 to 70 years in prison under the Mexico State Penal Code.
