Following her February eligibility reinstatement, Novak Djokovic voiced confidence in Serena Williams' return to professional tennis during an Indian Wells Masters press conference. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion's potential comeback has generated excitement among players, with Djokovic speculating on doubles with sister Venus.
Novak Djokovic predicted Serena Williams' return to the tour at a Wednesday press conference during the ATP/WTA Indian Wells Masters. "I think she's coming back," the world No. 2 said. "Everybody is excited, and it's definitely something that's very highly anticipated."
Williams, 44 and a mother of two, last competed at the 2022 US Open and became eligible again on February 22, 2026, after re-entering the anti-doping pool. She has softened earlier denials of a comeback. Djokovic suggested she might target Wimbledon, where she has seven singles titles, or play doubles with sister Venus. "I think she might maybe play a doubles tournament or two with Venus," he said. "That would be nice to see... She's one of the greatest athletes."
Venus Williams, 45, received a wild card for Indian Wells singles and faces Diane Parry first round.
Djokovic, 38 and a five-time Indian Wells champion, opens Saturday against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Kamil Majchrzak after his Australian Open final loss.
