FGR removes prosecutor Óscar Langlet for refusing to archive investigation

Óscar Langlet González was removed as head of the Fiscalía Especial en Investigación de Delitos Cometidos por Servidores Públicos at the FGR. The departure comes two days after Ulises Lara’s resignation and is attributed to his refusal to archive an investigation on superiors’ instructions.

Langlet González, husband of Supreme Court Justice Sara Irene Herrerías, returned to work after surgery and was then asked to resign. The office he led investigates crimes allegedly committed by federal public servants and matters related to the administration of justice.

The FGR has not issued an official statement on the reasons for the dismissal. Sources at the newspaper Reforma indicate that Langlet refused to archive an investigation as instructed by his superiors.

This marks the second departure in less than 48 hours at the institution led by Ernestina Godoy. Ulises Lara submitted his resignation on July 14 as head of the Fiscalía Especial en Investigación de Asuntos Relevantes.
