Jack Johnson, known for his chart-topping catalog spanning over two decades, is returning to the road after a break since 2022 with the Surfilmusic Tour. This 43-date North American journey will visit outdoor venues across the continent, emphasizing music, film, and environmental themes. The tour announcement includes the release of a new single, “Hold On To The Light,” featuring Hermanos Gutiérrez, available on streaming platforms. The track previews the soundtrack for the forthcoming Surfilmusic documentary, scored by Johnson and the Gutiérrez brothers.
The documentary explores Johnson’s path from surfer to filmmaker and musician, highlighting his early surf films Thicker Than Water (1999) and The September Sessions (2000). It features returning surfers such as Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, and the Malloy Brothers, while capturing the ocean community that influenced his work. Additional details on the film and soundtrack are expected next year, with a trailer already available.
Hermanos Gutiérrez, fans of Johnson’s music and films, collaborated in the studio alongside producer Mario Caldato Jr., who worked on albums like In Between Dreams and Sleep Through the Static. The brothers will open for Johnson on several tour dates, extending their partnership to the stage.
