The Kenya National Highways Authority has directed illegal occupants to vacate the Ruiru-Githunguri-Uplands road reserve within 30 days.
The Kenya National Highways Authority issued the notice on July 10, 2026. It requires traders, residents and owners of unauthorised structures along the 44-kilometre B116 corridor to clear the road reserve by August 10.
The eviction supports preparations for a Ksh4 billion upgrade awarded to a Chinese contractor. The project will improve the road to bitumen standards with new drainage and pedestrian walkways.
The corridor links the Nairobi-Thika Superhighway at Ruiru to the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway at Uplands. KeNHA stated that enforcement will follow if occupants do not comply.
