Lee Sedol to collaborate with AI on Go model a decade after AlphaGo

Former Go champion Lee Sedol will meet artificial intelligence again on Monday, nearly a decade after his landmark match against Google's AlphaGo. This time, the encounter emphasizes collaboration over competition. Lee will work with an agentic AI to create a Go game model.

Former Go champion Lee Sedol is returning to the Ara Hall at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, the same venue where he faced Google's AlphaGo in 2016 in a match dubbed the "match of the century." On Monday, he will engage with artificial intelligence in a collaborative demonstration organized by startup Enhans, aimed at showcasing the commercial potential of agentic AI systems.

Agentic AI goes beyond generative models by setting goals, planning steps, and autonomously executing tasks with digital tools. During the event, Lee will use voice commands to interact with Enhans's AI agent, building a Go game model in real time and then playing a match with it.

Enhans stated that the demonstration highlights AI's shift from competitor to creative partner for humans. The campaign is sponsored by global tech firms including Anthropic, Nvidia, and Microsoft, and will be broadcast live worldwide.

"Ten years ago, AI shocked the world at this very place," said Lee Seung-hyun, CEO of Enhans. "It is meaningful we are able to demonstrate how AI has now evolved to a partner that realizes human intent and expands creativity."

The event marks a symbolic milestone in AI development, transitioning from rivalry to partnership.
