Senator Mitch McConnell said Monday he remains in a rehabilitation facility and is continuing intense physical therapy after a fall at his home in June. He stated he will not attend events in Kentucky this weekend as a result.
The Republican from Kentucky, who is 84, has been hospitalized since June 14 and has not returned to the Capitol since then. In a statement released by his office, McConnell said he is focused on physical therapy sessions ordered by his doctors.
The Office of the Attending Physician confirmed that physicians visit him daily and that his childhood polio affects his mobility. It added that he is not yet cleared to leave the facility or return to work.
McConnell has missed 38 Senate votes since the incident. He is not seeking another term, which ends in January 2027.
