Nintendo has announced its fifth Direct of 2026—the second dedicated to the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie—for March 9, featuring the final trailer ahead of the film's April 1 release. New artwork spotlights returning characters from classic Mario games, including Wart, Ninjis, Birdo, Mouser, and frog suits.
On March 6, 2026, Nintendo confirmed a dedicated Direct presentation for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, scheduled for Monday, March 9, at 2pm PT (5pm ET, 9pm UK time, 10pm GMT). Streamed on YouTube and the Nintendo Today app, the event will showcase the film's final trailer and exclude any game announcements.
Accompanying the announcement is new promotional artwork highlighting characters from Mario's history. Featured are Ninjis—black-clad, star-shaped ninja creatures debuting in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2—alongside Birdo and Mouser, bosses from the 1988 title, frog-like antagonist Wart from the dream world of Subcon in Super Mario Bros. 2, and frog suits from Super Mario Bros. 3. This marks the first official look at Wart in the film.
A prior Direct in January revealed other Super Mario Bros. 2 enemies and Baby Mario and Baby Luigi in flashbacks from the first movie. Confirmed cast includes Bowser Jr. (voiced by Benny Safdie), Rosalina (Brie Larson), and Yoshi. The creative team returns: directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, screenwriter Matthew Fogel, and composer Brian Tyler.
This Direct follows an initial movie-focused presentation earlier in the year, amid Nintendo's 2026 schedule emphasizing promotions: prior events covered Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, a Partner Showcase, and an Indie World Showcase, with no first-party Nintendo Switch 2 game details yet. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues Nintendo's expansion into feature films and is set for theatrical release on April 1, 2026. A recent UK cinema listing has hinted at Wario's potential appearance, echoing earlier product packaging leaks.
