The University of Akron Track and Field team will host the Akron Annual Invitational on February 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Fieldhouse. Students can attend for free with their Zip Card, while the event features a mix of running, jumping, and throwing competitions.
The University of Akron Track and Field program, which includes about 80 student-athletes, has a strong record in indoor competitions. Last year, the men's team secured first place and the women's team finished second at the 2025 Indoor Track MAC Championship.
Kendra Reimer-Gonzales, the program's director, highlighted the appeal of the sport. "The track is a unique sport because many people have never watched some of the events such as pole vault and triple jump," she noted. She also described the atmosphere: "It’s a great event. Music is playing the whole time."
The meet will feature simultaneous running, jumping, and throwing events. Fans must purchase tickets in advance for $10 through the Akron Athletics website, except for UA students who enter free with a valid Zip Card. Attendees will access the fieldhouse via the Student Recreation Center, with seating available in the bleachers. No concessions will be offered during the event.
This home invitational provides an opportunity for the community to support the team in a lively setting.
