NASA astronaut Chris Williams returns to Earth after 241 days

NASA astronaut Chris Williams and two Roscosmos cosmonauts landed safely in Kazakhstan on July 26 after completing a mission aboard the International Space Station. The crew had spent 241 days in orbit conducting scientific research.

The Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft touched down by parachute at 5:27 a.m. CDT southeast of Dzhezkazgan. Williams traveled with cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, who departed the station at 2:03 a.m. the same day.

Williams launched to the station on November 27, 2025. The mission marked his first spaceflight and Mikaev's first as well, while it was Kud-Sverchkov's second. During their time in orbit the crew completed 3,856 orbits and covered more than 102 million miles.

Williams performed two spacewalks and contributed to studies on cancer treatments and materials production in space. The work also supported preparations for future missions to the Moon and Mars.

After medical checks at the landing site the crew traveled by helicopter to Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Williams is scheduled to continue onward to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
