Scarborough Group International (SGI), a property regeneration specialist, has lodged a planning application to construct three padel courts on land at Steel City Stadium within Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. This proposal represents the latest phase in SGI's long-term investment strategy for the stadium, where the company has already committed £10 million to developments including a grandstand, café, and coworking lounge.
The courts are planned to be located on the same level as the main stadium concourse, providing players with direct access to toilets, changing facilities, a café, and the workspace community. Padel, a rapidly growing sport in the UK that combines elements of tennis and squash, is seen as an opportunity to enhance participation, wellbeing, and community engagement at the site.

Should the plans gain approval, the courts are anticipated to be operational by summer 2026, further transforming the stadium into a multifaceted community hub.
