Row house in Wolfenbüttel collapses after detonation, person missing

A row house in Wolfenbüttel collapsed following a significant detonation, with one person missing. Firefighters brought the blaze under control, but the cause is still under investigation. Around 140 emergency responders were deployed.

On Thursday evening, a significant detonation occurred in a row house in the Lower Saxon town of Wolfenbüttel, according to police reports. Neighbors heard a loud bang that was audible from afar and alerted emergency services. Thick smoke rose, and a thick brick wall collapsed completely. The house caved in, and part of the building caught fire.

Fire officials reported that around 140 personnel were deployed. The fire was brought under control. One person is missing, and police stated: «No information can yet be given on the whereabouts of this person.» Investigations into the cause are ongoing.

There was one injury among the firefighters, though police initially reported multiple injuries. In total, 21 people were cared for by rescue services and firefighters. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) was also on site.
