Anahat Singh defeated Ruqayya Salem to become the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash Championship.
Anahat Singh, the 19-year-old from Delhi, beat Egyptian second seed Ruqayya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in the final on Saturday in Ontario, Canada.
The top-seeded player had reached the final by defeating Barb Sameh 11-3, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6 on Friday.
She is the first Indian to win a squash world title at any level and the first to reach the junior final since Joshna Chinappa in 2005.
"I'm really happy," Anahat said after her semifinal win. "Reaching the final has made my parents and coaches really happy, but the tournament is not done yet."
