Apple TV sets June premiere for Cape Fear thriller series

Apple TV has announced a June 5, 2026, premiere for its psychological horror thriller series Cape Fear, starring Javier Bardem and Amy Adams. The 10-episode limited series reimagines the classic story of vengeance, with episodes releasing weekly. It draws inspiration from John D. MacDonald's novel and Martin Scorsese's 1991 film remake.

Apple TV revealed on February 4, 2026, that its upcoming series Cape Fear will debut globally on Friday, June 5, 2026, with the first two episodes available immediately. Subsequent episodes will follow every Friday until July 31, 2026, completing the 10-episode run.

The series is created, showrun, and executive produced by Nick Antosca. Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serve as executive producers, building on their collaboration from the 1991 film remake, which Scorsese directed and Spielberg produced. Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum will direct the pilot episode and also executive produce.

Javier Bardem stars as the notorious killer Max Cady, with Amy Adams as Anna Bowden, one of the attorneys who helped put him behind bars; Adams also executive produces. Patrick Wilson plays her husband, Tom Bowden. The ensemble cast includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.

Inspired by John D. MacDonald's 1962 novel The Executioners—which served as the basis for the Gregory Peck-starring film of the same name—Cape Fear centers on a storm brewing for the happily married attorneys Anna and Tom when Max Cady is released from prison seeking vengeance. The production hails from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television, developed through Antosca's overall deal at UCP since 2017. Additional executive producers include Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television.

Apple TV released first-look images alongside the announcement, highlighting the series' psychological horror elements 35 years after Scorsese's landmark remake.
