Apple Watch SE 3 stands out as value leader in 2025 lineup

Apple's Apple Watch SE 3 has emerged as a compelling budget option in the company's 2025 product announcements, matching many features of pricier models at a lower cost. Priced starting at $249, it includes upgrades like an always-on display and fast charging that were previously exclusive to higher-end watches. This release addresses long-standing gaps in the SE series, making it suitable for a wide range of users.

Apple unveiled a range of new devices in 2025, including the iPhone 17 Air and Apple Watch Ultra 3, but the Apple Watch SE 3 has quickly gained attention for its impressive value. The third-generation SE, starting at $249 for the 40mm Wi-Fi model and $299 for the cellular version, became available online and in stores immediately following the announcement.

The previous SE model, from 2022, had lagged behind flagship versions in key areas. This update bridges that divide significantly. It incorporates the S10 chip, shared with the Series 11 and Ultra 3, enabling features such as 5G connectivity, an always-on display, temperature tracking, sleep apnea alerts, sleep scores, one-handed gesture controls, and speaker-based music playback. Fast charging, introduced on the Series 10, allows the SE 3 to deliver up to eight hours of battery life from just 15 minutes on the charger.

However, some limitations remain. The SE 3 retains an 18-hour battery life claim, shorter than the 24 hours for the Series 11 and 42 hours for the Ultra 3. It lacks advanced health sensors for hypertension notifications and ECG readings, as well as niche tools like a depth gauge and water temperature sensor. Available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, it features slightly wider bezels than competitors and does not include the enhanced glass protection found on the Series 11.

These enhancements position the SE 3 as an accessible entry point for first-time buyers, families, or those upgrading from older models like the Series 5. By prioritizing essential functions without the premium price, Apple has made the SE series more competitive overall.
