The traditional auctions for the first salmon of the season on the Sella and Narcea rivers have been suspended due to a lack of catches. Three weeks after the season opened, no specimens have been caught in Asturias rivers.
The salmon crisis in Asturias has led to the suspension of the campanu auctions on the Sella and Narcea rivers. This is the first time this has happened since these auctions began.
During the covid-19 pandemic there were no public auctions due to health restrictions, but salmon were caught. On the Narcea, Íñigo Fernández Amantegui caught a 4.3-kilogram specimen and donated 2,000 euros to the Asociación Galbán. On the Sella, Josechu Mori caught a 4.6-kilogram one sold directly.
The Cangas de Onís City Council will allocate the usual 2,500 euros for the Sella's first salmon fisherman to the Asociación de Pescadores El Esmerillón. On the Narcea, the first caught specimen will be donated to the Arca Project, with 3,000 euros compensation from each entity if it arrives alive at the hatchery.
