Augusta University's men's indoor track and field team delivered a strong performance at the Tryon Winter Classic and Combined Events, held January 16-17 at Tryon International. The Jaguars achieved several top-five results across sprints, distance events, relays, and field competitions. Highlights included runner-up spots in the 5,000 meters and high jump.
The Augusta University Jaguars competed in the Tryon Winter Classic and Combined Events from January 16 to 17 at Tryon International, focusing on indoor track and field disciplines. On the men's side, the team recorded impressive results in various events, demonstrating depth and competitiveness.
In sprinting, Kobe Mitchell led with a fifth-place finish in the 60 meters final, clocking 6.94 seconds, while Devin Barolette placed eighth at 7.05 seconds. The 200 meters saw Logan Wynn in 18th at 22.62 seconds, followed by Gabriel Carson (22.71), Devin Barolette (22.89), Charlie Roberts (23.21), and Dorian Chance (23.27). The 400 meters featured five Jaguars, topped by Roberto Barrera's 19th-place time of 51.25 seconds, with Dylan Poole close behind at 51.37 seconds; Mykel Thompson (51.82), Nicholas Smink (52.83), and Braylon Moyer (54.49) also participated.
Mid-distance efforts included Daniel Pierce's 10th place in the 600 meters (1:26.09) and David Ajuzie's 16th (1:26.86). Distance runners shone particularly bright: Gabriel Best took fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:41.58), with Benjamin Hall at 9:20.03; in the 5,000 meters, Elijah Fitts secured second (15:37.74), Sam Segrist ninth (16:20.22), and Landon Amos 10th (16:20.67). Ragiariki Lewis added a fifth-place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.43 seconds).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mykel Thompson, Dylan Poole, Logan Wynn, and Roberto Barrera earned third place in 3:23.89 seconds.
Field events highlighted Mitchell Jean Baptiste's second-place high jump clearance of 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches). Jackson Evans jumped 6.22 meters (20 feet, 5 inches) in the long jump, and Cory Dekle managed 6.18 meters there plus 12.80 meters (42 feet) in the triple jump. In shot put, Joshua Bowen led with 13.31 meters (43 feet, 8 inches), supported by Michael Chatman's 10.74 meters (35 feet, 3 inches).
Overall, the Jaguars' performances underscore their potential in the indoor season.
