Avian flu has been detected in a turkey farm in Friesoythe, Cloppenburg district. The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut confirmed the finding, and the flock of 5,000 birds was culled. This marks the eleventh outbreak in the district since October 15.

Avian influenza, caused by the H5N1 pathogen, has been confirmed in a turkey operation in Friesoythe, Cloppenburg district. A district spokesperson announced on Sunday evening that the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) had verified the diagnosis. The entire flock of 5,000 turkeys was humanely culled to prevent spread.

Since October 15, this is the eleventh outbreak of bird flu in the district. In total, 108,500 turkeys and 5,300 ducks have been affected. These figures highlight the ongoing challenges for the poultry industry in the area.

To contain the virus, the district issued a general animal disease regulation. Starting Monday, November 3, a protection zone with a three-kilometer radius will be in place around the affected farm. Additionally, a ten-kilometer surveillance zone will be established to halt the further dissemination of the H5N1 pathogen. These measures aim to safeguard animal stocks and public health.
