Residents of Bodinga Local Government Area in Sokoto State protested on Friday after bandit attacks killed several people including a village head and displaced many from their communities.
The attacks occurred on Thursday afternoon in villages including Qyaula, Keloji, Chohi Takule, Kulodo and Kwamtsi. Armed bandits killed the Village Head of Kulodo, Alhaji Abubakar Tudu, his son Abubakar Abubakar and others while abducting residents and forcing many to flee.
Protesters blocked the Sokoto–Jega–Yauri highway for several hours, set tyres and logs ablaze and vandalised vehicles including one from the Kebbi State Transport Authority. They demanded urgent government action to address the insecurity.
A government delegation including Speaker Tukur Bala Bodinga and federal lawmaker Nasiru Shehu Bobo visited the area. The Sokoto State Police Command said operations ran until 3 a.m. on Friday with reinforcements deployed to restore order.
