Begoña Gómez, wife of the prime minister, has asked Judge Juan Carlos Peinado for permission to travel between July 7 and 10 to the NATO summit in Ankara and her daughter's graduation in London.
The request includes the temporary return of her passport, withdrawn on June 20 by the judge over flight risk concerns. Gómez argues the trip to Turkey will be made with the official Spanish delegation on a government plane and includes an invitation from Emine Erdogan.
The return will be via London on a commercial flight on July 10. Lawyer Antonio Camacho states the presidential security team ensures her location throughout and she commits to returning the passport the next day.
On June 20 the judge ordered Gómez to stand trial for influence peddling, private-sector corruption, misappropriation and embezzlement. The precautionary measures, which also require biweekly court appearances, have been appealed to the Madrid Audiencia.
