Bogotá to receive book donation ahead of Gabo Festival

Public libraries in Bogotá will incorporate 300 copies of the finalist works from the Premio Aena de Narrativa Hispanoamericana. The official handover is scheduled for Thursday at the Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco.

Bogotá was selected as the first city worldwide for this international book donation. The program will strengthen the Red Distrital de Bibliotecas Públicas de Bogotá, known as BibloRed, which comprises nearly 150 spaces and receives around five million visitors annually.

The initiative marks the first international action of the Premio Aena, created by the Spanish company Aena. It has the support of the Fundación Gabo and the Cátedra Vargas Llosa. The day also launches a book distribution program that will later reach other cities and countries.

The books include the five finalist works, among them 'El buen mal' by Samanta Schweblin, the prize winner. The handover coincides with BibloRed's 25th anniversary and forms part of the programming ahead of the 14th edition of the Festival Gabo.
