Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht has stated the team wants to keep quarterback Baker Mayfield beyond the current season. Licht addressed recent speculation linking Mayfield to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a potential free agent option for 2027.
Licht spoke on the Fan Stream Sports YouTube channel and emphasized the organization's positive view of Mayfield. "We love Baker," he said. "Nobody wants to see Baker go anywhere else."
The comments come after Mayfield indicated that contract extension talks with the Buccaneers are not close at this stage. Licht noted ongoing internal discussions but stressed that no one in the organization wants Mayfield to depart.
Mayfield joined Tampa Bay in 2023 and earned Pro Bowl selections in his first two seasons there. The team currently has limited options behind him, including Jake Browning and Connor Bazelak.
Licht also addressed Mayfield's public remarks on the contract situation, saying he respects the quarterback's approach and holds no concerns about his mindset.
