Cali's 2025 Christmas lights include over 4,000 figures

The first images of Cali's 2025 Christmas lights were revealed this week, featuring a 2.2-kilometer route set to light up on December 7. The design highlights the biodiversity of Valle del Cauca and cultural elements, using recyclable materials. The event aims to foster community gatherings and local identity.

Cali's 2025 Christmas lights span 2.2 kilometers, distributed along the Bulevar del Río, Plaza de Cayzedo, and calle quinta. Featuring over 4,000 illuminated figures, the installation draws inspiration from the regional biodiversity and depicts the journey of Mary and Joseph through local landscapes, incorporating flowers, butterflies, animals, and cultural symbols.

Built with recyclable and biodegradable materials, the structures will be visible both day and night. Hourly light and sound shows from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. will include music, technological animations, and cultural performances.

The lighting extends to sites such as the San Pedro Cathedral, Cristo Rey, Tres Cruces, and rural areas like Montebello, La Buitrera, and Felidia. It also reaches the Bulevar de Oriente and barrio Obrero, the venue for the 'Ruta de la Salsa' handover.

With a social focus, it involves informal vendors trained in coexistence norms. The official inauguration is scheduled for December 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the main square of the Centro Administrativo Municipal, aligning with Día de las Velitas. This initiative creates gathering spaces and emphasizes Cali's cultural identity, blending visual, narrative, and environmental elements from its natural and urban settings.
