A California woman was struck by a boat while tubing on the Colorado River with her son, sustaining critical injuries from the propeller. The incident occurred on June 20 in San Bernardino County, and authorities are investigating the hit-and-run.
Nikkie Wittine and her 15-year-old son were floating on inner tubes near the Needles Bridge when a speeding boat hit them around 7 p.m. on June 20. Her husband, Ronald Wittine, said the propeller grabbed her legs after she tried to jump off her tube.
The son was also pulled under the boat but surfaced quickly and helped his mother to safety. Ronald Wittine described him as a hero for the rescue effort.
Emergency crews airlifted Nikkie Wittine to a hospital in Las Vegas for surgery. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the collision, with no arrests reported so far.
