The 79th Cannes Film Festival began on Tuesday with the premiere of Pierre Salvadori’s The Electric Kiss as the opening film. Stars and international filmmakers arrived on the Croisette in the French Riviera resort town for the event, which runs through May 23.
Peter Jackson received an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony, presented by Elijah Wood. The festival features new works from filmmakers including Pedro Almodóvar, Cristian Mungiu, Guillaume Canet, Nicolas Winding Refn and Paweł Pawlikowski, along with previous Palme d’Or winners and other noted directors such as Hirokazu Kore-eda, Asghar Farhadi and Ira Sachs.
