Sherwood restored a two-goal advantage later in the period with his first tally, assisted by defenseman Elias Pettersson. Boeser opened the scoring late in the first period and set up both of Sherwood's goals, including the overtime winner at 1:42, where Sherwood deflected Boeser's pass past Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard.
Edmonton mounted a comeback from a 3-1 deficit, with Leon Draisaitl scoring twice in his 800th NHL game, including a late power-play equalizer to force overtime. Jack Roslovic added a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who saw their two-game winning streak end.
Sherwood's performance included four hits, bringing his season totals to six goals and 45 hits through 10 games. Boeser has now scored nine goals in his last eight games against Edmonton. Pettersson blocked four shots and has posted two goals and two assists over his last two games.
The win carried added emotional weight for Boeser, who had recently taken time off following the death of his dog, Coolie, a companion through personal hardships including his father's passing. As Sportsnet's Caroline Cameron noted, “You love stories like that. You can tell this goal (by Boeser) meant a lot.”
