Capcom is developing a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, with a first look shown at Summer Game Fest. The game is set to arrive as early as 2027 and will be handled by the team behind recent remakes.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi emphasized during a presentation and Q&A that the title is as central to the series as any numbered entry. The story takes place three months after Resident Evil 2 and runs parallel to the events of Resident Evil 3, following Claire and Chris Redfield on Rockfort Island.
Hirabayashi confirmed the game will use only third-person perspective with no first-person option. It will add new mechanics and story elements while aiming for a game feel closer to the Resident Evil 2 remake than later entries.
The project will launch on Switch 2. The original game remains available as a PS2 classic on PlayStation 5 and via backward compatibility on Xbox Series X/S, though no plans exist for a GameCube version on Switch Online.
