Carlsen has now held the top spot for 15 straight years despite the drop. He stays more than 30 points ahead of Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana.
Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu gained 15 points after winning Norway Chess. He climbed five places to world number 11.
World champion Gukesh Dommaraju lost 15 points and fell outside the top 25. The title match against Javokhir Sindarov is set for November.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov dropped 11 points at the UzChess Cup. Hans Niemann lost 12 points but remains world number 19.
