Casio launches metal G-Squad fitness watches with heart rate tracking

Casio has introduced the G-Shock GM-H5600 series, blending premium metal design with advanced fitness features. The watches include heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, and solar charging capabilities. They will debut in Japan this March before expanding to other markets.

The G-Shock GM-H5600 lineup represents Casio's latest addition to its G-Squad sports-oriented collection. This series merges the health-focused elements of the DW-H5600 model with the stylish metal construction of the GM-5600, creating a versatile option suitable for daily use and intense exercise.

Available in two variants—the silver GM-H5600-1 and the gold GM-H5600-9—the watches share identical specifications apart from their case colors. They feature a high-definition inverted MIP LCD display and eco-friendly resin bands made from plastic. The design incorporates a dimpled stainless steel bezel with four machined holes, paired with a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case back that houses various sensors. At 63 grams, the timepieces maintain a lightweight feel despite their metal build.

Fitness tracking is a core strength of the GM-H5600. An optical sensor enables ongoing heart rate measurement and blood oxygen assessment. Sleep analysis includes a 6-level recovery status, sleep score, and a sleep charge function. A three-axis accelerometer supports monitoring of runs, walks, and multisport activities. The watches integrate the Polar library for in-depth training insights, cardio load evaluation, and guided breathing sessions.

Connectivity comes via Bluetooth, allowing pairing with the Casio Watches app for comprehensive data reviews. Battery life reaches 35 hours during continuous tracking, extending to one month in basic mode without heart rate activation. Solar charging assists with timekeeping but does not power the sensors or advanced functions.

Pricing is set at ¥51,700, approximately $334, for the Japanese launch in late March. Availability in the US, Europe, and elsewhere is expected in the following weeks.
