Ceramics and sanitary ware factories in Egypt have agreed to cut natural gas consumption by up to 25 percent and electricity use by 15 percent under a new ministry initiative.
The agreement came during a workshop hosted by the Ministry of Industry for 25 companies in the sector. The event introduced the Industry Sun initiative, which focuses on energy efficiency measures and rooftop solar installations.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said the plan supports the Egyptian Industry Strategy 2030 by lowering costs and emissions. The first phase targets 1,000 megawatts of solar power on factory roofs.
Factories will work with equipment makers and energy service firms on short, medium, and long-term steps. Technical and financial support will come through programs from the Federation of Egyptian Industries and UNIDO.
