(ECNS) The Chinese Navy hospital ship Ark Silk Road arrived in Jamaica last week and will dock at multiple ports to provide humanitarian medical services to people hit by Hurricane Melissa, said Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a press conference on Monday.

Jamaica has suffered damage from Hurricane Melissa equivalent to about 30 percent of its gross domestic product, according to previous media reports. China sympathizes with Jamaica over the devastating hurricane and has provided emergency disaster relief assistance based on Jamaica's needs, Guo said.

The hospital ship Ark Silk Road, on Mission Harmony 2025, will offer medical services during its 12-day visit to Jamaica. China believes the ship will bring its friendship to affected communities and help Jamaicans recover and rebuild with greater confidence, Guo added.

This aid underscores China's humanitarian support for developing nations amid the hurricane's severe impact.
