President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Thursday the leadership change at Petróleos Mexicanos. Víctor Rodríguez Padilla is leaving the post after a year and a half to return to academia.
Claudia Sheinbaum explained that the change was agreed from the start with Rodríguez, who accepted the post on the condition of serving only temporarily. The new director general is Juan Carlos Carpio Fragoso, until now the company’s corporate finance director.
Carpio will assume the role once ratified by the board of administration. Sheinbaum said the rest of the Pemex team will remain unchanged and that the official knows all the oil company’s projects.
Finance Secretary Édgar Amador Zamora confirmed that financing options are being evaluated to improve the company’s profile. These include the possibility of returning to international debt markets after a successful local issuance of 31.5 billion pesos in February.
