A Delhi court on June 10 sent the owner and accountant of a Malviya Nagar B&B to 12 days of judicial custody in connection with a fire that killed 23 people.
Judicial Magistrate Bhanu Pratap Singh of Saket Court issued the order on an application by Delhi Police. The police arrested owner Lavkesh Bajaj and accountant Jay Mishra for alleged fire safety violations at the facility. The fire occurred on June 3 at the B&B, also referred to as Flourish Stays, in South Delhi. It initially claimed 22 lives, with the toll rising to 23 after Bangladeshi national Rahana Akhtar died from injuries on June 10. Cook Keshav Negi was arrested on June 8.
