Silke Engelholm is stepping down as head of department at Skånes universitetssjukhus on 31 August. The decision follows widespread criticism of her leadership.
Silke Engelholm has led the department for hematology, oncology and radiation physics since 2017. An internal report by consultancy Gaia showed that her leadership had created fear and a culture of silence among staff.
All seven section heads in the management group have resigned in protest. An additional 27 employees at the clinical research unit and over 100 doctors have submitted petitions against her.
Region Skåne confirmed on Monday that Engelholm is leaving her post. According to a press release she is stepping down after careful consideration to safeguard operations.
Björn Ekmehag, administrative head at the hospital, expressed disappointment that a joint solution could not be reached. The region will now begin recruiting a successor.
