The club was charged by the EFL on May 8, one day before the first leg, following reports that a Southampton analyst was seen filming Middlesbrough's training session at Rockliffe Park. Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg described the incident as disgraceful and said it broke his heart after his team lost the tie.
