Egyptian retail chains to launch Ahlan Ramadan discount sections

Egyptian retail chains will launch dedicated Ahlan Ramadan sections across all branches next week, following a government agreement with food producers to freeze or lower commodity prices, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk said on Tuesday. The move aims to ensure market stability ahead of the holy month after an extensive meeting with trade federations.

In a move to support consumer purchasing power during the high-consumption season, private sector representatives committed to maintaining or reducing current price levels, as confirmed by Farouk. The agreement includes opening primary Ahlan Ramadan exhibitions in Cairo and Giza next week, along with an immediate increase in the supply of basic commodities and Ramadan-specific goods known as Yamish.

The minister directed enhanced supplies across all markets, prioritizing strategic commodities and closely monitoring national reserves through cooperation with the private sector. Permanent stalls will expand within commercial chains to offer the same discounts as in the main exhibitions, with coordination alongside provincial governors to ensure prompt establishment and adherence to safety standards, including civil defence and fire protection.

The meeting was attended by key officials such as Deputy Minister Walid Abul Magd, Federation of Chambers of Commerce Vice Presidents Hany Mahmoud and Amr Abu El-Oyoun, and Ashraf El-Gezairy, Chairman of the Chamber of Food Industries. Farouk stated that the ministry is implementing a comprehensive plan to regulate markets and replenish stocks immediately to prevent shortages, with the continued operation of exhibitions determined by demand levels in each province.
