Forward Emil Ekholm has joined Västerås IK following a strong season with Vimmerby in HockeyAllsvenskan. He reflected on limited playing time during his previous stint with Kalmar.
Emil Ekholm completed his move to Västerås after breaking through at the HockeyAllsvenskan level with Vimmerby last season. He described the transfer as a perfect match for a club undergoing a restart.
Ekholm waited for an opportunity in HockeyAllsvenskan after several seasons in HockeyEttan with Troja-Ljungby. Kalmar signed him ahead of the 2024/25 season, but he appeared in only nine games before agreeing to a loan with Narvik in Norway.
He said he remained professional despite sparse ice time yet grew frustrated after months without a larger role. Ekholm later returned to Sweden and secured a regular spot with Vimmerby, where he produced at the higher level.
The forward met Västerås during the season and now aims to take on a bigger role with the club. He expressed satisfaction with the decision so far.
