Former President Ernesto Samper confirmed his support for Senator Iván Cepeda on May 13. The endorsement comes ahead of the May 31 elections. Samper stressed issues such as peace and social inclusion.
Samper held a nearly 17-minute conversation with Cepeda in which they analyzed the country's challenges. He stated that Colombia must choose between deepening change or returning to the previous neoliberal model.
The former president defended the Special Jurisdiction for Peace as a key tool. He noted that the country has 10 million victims and that progress toward reconciliation is necessary.
Cepeda, of the Historic Pact, aims to maintain the support Gustavo Petro received in 2022 in regions such as Valle del Cauca. There, Petro secured 53.34 percent of the votes in the first round.
