German tennis player Eva Lys has pulled out of the WTA 250 tournament in Prague due to ongoing health issues. The withdrawal comes just before the event was set to begin on July 21, 2026.
Lys announced the decision on July 20, expressing disappointment over the timing. “Really sad to have to withdraw from this week’s tournament in Prague due to health reasons,” she wrote. “Having to pull out at the last minute, especially after already missing the last two weeks, is incredibly frustrating.”
The 24-year-old had been scheduled to face fifth seed Tereza Valentova in the opening round. Priscilla Hon replaced her in the draw. Lys has dealt with multiple setbacks this season, including a knee injury sustained at the Australian Open that sidelined her for two months.
Her ranking has dropped from a career-high of world No. 39 in January to No. 86. She lost in the first round at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships to Diana Shnaider. Lys, who was diagnosed with spondyloarthritis in 2020, said she plans to return at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto next month.
