Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has addressed driver concerns over the 2026 technical regulations during a media call at the start of the summer break. He stressed that fan feedback remains the top priority for the sport.
Halfway through the 2026 season the new rules, which place greater emphasis on electric power and energy management, have drawn criticism from drivers. Max Verstappen described the cars as "Formula E on steroids" during winter testing, while Oscar Piastri highlighted issues with power units' self-learning elements at circuits such as Silverstone and Spa.
Domenicali said he understands the opinions expressed but prefers constructive discussion behind closed doors. "You know me, we are not here to put the tape on the mouth of anyone," he stated. "The beauty of our sport is that everyone can have an opinion."
F1 data shows fan ratings have improved. According to the Formula 1 Fan Voice programme of 60,000 participants, 66 percent rated 2026 races as good or excellent, up from 60 percent last year. Domenicali added that the championship is in a strong position overall and that fans come first in decisions about the sport's direction.
