On Thursday morning (18/6), the Federal Police executed search warrants against Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), the government leader in the Senate, in the ninth phase of Operation Compliance Zero.
The operation investigated alleged irregularities involving Banco Master. The warrants were executed at Wagner's addresses in Brasília and Bahia. The PF seized US$ 55,000 and 33,500 euros.
The PF based the searches on messages from the cell phone of Augusto Lima, former partner of Daniel Vorcaro. The conversations indicate contacts about the “Emenda Master” and payroll loans. The senator denies irregularities and states that the relations were institutional.
President Lula called Wagner after the operation. Lula's aides said the president will defend the continuation of the investigations. Wagner's defense will appeal the decision of STF Minister André Mendonça, who authorized the searches.
Mendonça denied a request for searches at Wagner's Senate office, following an opinion from the PGR. The minister considered the measure an undue interference between branches of government.
