Former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz Tagle defended the government’s megareform during a protocol lunch at La Moneda.
Frei attended the meeting called by President José Antonio Kast on July 9, 2026, to mark 200 years of the Presidency of the Republic. The former leader said the initiative has already been applied successfully in OECD countries.
Addressing parliamentarians, Frei stated that Congress is the place to debate without disqualifications and urged them to focus on “doing the work and less on destroying each other.” He noted that a single bill will not solve all the country’s problems.
Frei mentioned other recent government projects, including one in the electricity sector that extends bill payment terms from four to fifteen years through an agreement with an international company.
