Franco Colapinto takes part in first practices for Las Vegas GP

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto returned to the Las Vegas Formula 1 Grand Prix track for the first two practice sessions. On a circuit where he suffered a major crash in 2024, Colapinto had a promising start but ended in lower positions. The session was broadcast live on several channels in Argentina.

Activities for the Las Vegas Grand Prix began on Thursday, November 20, 2025, on the street circuit of the Las Vegas Strip. Franco Colapinto, Alpine driver, returned to race on this track, recalling the severe crash he suffered in his sixth Formula 1 race in 2024, which sent him to the medical center before a comeback from the pits.

The first free practice (FP1) started at 21:30 Argentine time. Colapinto went out on medium tires and clocked 1:45.578 on his first timed lap, temporarily placing second. However, after 12 laps and his first pit stop, he dropped to 18th, with Max Verstappen leading initially. Later, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari set the fastest time of 1:35.281, followed by teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Alpine switched strategies, fitting soft tires (reds) on Colapinto and Pierre Gasly, but neither improved much: Colapinto ended 19th and Gasly 11th at key points. Gasly briefly reached third, while Lando Norris of McLaren, in 17th, struggled with car control. In the final 20 minutes, teams pushed to better their times before the session ended.

The second free practice (FP2) was scheduled for 1:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21. All of Colapinto's sessions were available on Disney+ (Premium Plan), F1 TV Pro, and Fox Sports. In team context, Alpine recently confirmed Colapinto's stay in Formula 1 for 2026, ruling out Mick Schumacher as a replacement.
