Google has introduced several updates to its Android system services in June 2026, giving users additional controls over WhatsApp backups, app security checks, and password management.
The changes, delivered through Google Play services and the Play Store, allow management of WhatsApp backups directly in device settings. They also add extra Play Protect verifications for unverified apps and support for transferring passwords and passkeys using the Credential Exchange standard.
Google stated in its release notes that these system services updates make Android devices more secure and reliable while providing new features. The updates affect phones, tablets, Wear OS, Android TV, and other platforms without requiring a full operating system upgrade.
Additional features include an “Ask Play” AI search button in the Play Store and Find Hub setup options for locating devices. Google system updates roll out gradually across supported devices.
