Grizzlies sign former Tennessee guard Jahmai Mashack to two-way deal

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed former Tennessee Volunteers guard Jahmai Mashack to a two-way NBA contract, providing depth amid multiple injuries. To make room, the team is waiving center P.J. Hall. This move comes as the Grizzlies struggle with a 4-10 record early in the season.

The Memphis Grizzlies announced the signing of Jahmai Mashack, their No. 59 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, to a two-way contract. The 6-foot-4 guard, who spent four years at Tennessee, brings defensive prowess to a backcourt plagued by injuries. Mashack's agent, Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA Sports, confirmed the deal to ESPN, as reported by Shams Charania.

Mashack averaged 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 blocks per game in 38 contests during his senior year at Tennessee in 2024-25, shooting .454 from the field, .351 from three, and .723 from the free-throw line. As an SEC All-Defensive Teamer, he rarely sought his own shot but excelled in perimeter defense.

To accommodate Mashack, the Grizzlies are waiving P.J. Hall, a 6-foot-8 center and two-time All-ACC selection from Clemson. Hall appeared in seven NBA games this season, averaging 3.9 minutes, 1.9 points on .556/.333/.667 shooting, and 1.3 rebounds. In one G League outing with the Memphis Hustle, he scored 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds, and added one assist.

Memphis sits at 4-10 after 14 games, hampered by injuries. Ja Morant exited a recent 108-100 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers with a sore right calf, casting doubt on his status for the upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs. Zach Edey returned from left ankle surgery, while Brandon Clarke recovers from right knee surgery and could return in 6-9 weeks. Guards Ty Jerome (calf strain), Scotty Pippen Jr. (left great toe surgery), and Javon Small (left turf toe) remain sidelined, with Pippen potentially missing most of the season. Morant and Jerome are expected back soon, but the others may be out until December or January.

This signing addresses the absence of four point guards, allowing Mashack a chance to earn minutes on a team desperate for backcourt stability.
