Heavy rains on Sunday, June 28, caused severe flooding in Puebla, damaging cars and businesses and resulting in one death.
The rainfall began around 16:00 hours and included hail and strong winds. These caused trees to fall in several parts of the city, including on the Recta a Cholula, where one fell on a vehicle and killed the driver instantly.
Civil Protection personnel, firefighters and the state Public Security Secretariat responded to the scene. They could not save the driver, while the passenger was taken to a hospital. Flooding was also reported on Bulevar 5 de Mayo and the overflow of the Atoyac and San Francisco rivers.
Restaurants in the historic center suffered losses due to drainage collapse. The power system in the city center failed and the state Attorney General’s Office reported that its official website and some digital services were temporarily out of operation.
